Melasma

Melasma is a skin condition in which light-to-dark brown patches of pigment form due to the stimulation of melanocytes. Melanocytes are the melanin (pigment) producing cells.

FACT: Skin of Colour has larger melanocytes that are easily triggered.

Melasma patches can appear almost anywhere. Most people develop them in the following places:

  • cheeks
  • nose
  • chins
  • lips
  • forearms
  • neck

What’s the cause of melasma?

Melasma is caused by an increase in the pigment melanin in your skin. There are certain factors which can trigger melasma such as:

  • sun exposure,
  • hormones,
  • pregnancy,
  • medications.

To help prevent melasma, you must avoid/minimise exposure to the sun’s rays, wear sunscreen and put on a wide-brimmed hat. Large sunglasses which protect the skin around the cheekbones & temples would also be preferrable.

If you’re suffering with melasma, you don’t have to deal with the discolouration. YOU DO HAVE OPTIONS….

PROTECTION & TREATMENT

Your best option is to use sunscreen protection DAILY, no matter the season. The sun will only make melasma worse. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen and reapply frequently (every 2-3 hours).

Inzincable SPF50 is a ground-breaking mineral sunscreen, not only does it protect you from those harmful UVA and UVB rays it helps to treat melasma due to its key ingredients – one of them being Melashield TM which helps to reduce hyperpigmentation.

Beyond that, you can reduce your melasma and even your skin tone with the Dr V Facial Pigmentation Kit – this kit contains two products which actively work to target your melasma:

Vita A.C.E Cream - Increases cell turnover and regeneration with a powerful cocktail of Vitamin A, C and E.

HPC Clear Cream - The main treatment. Delivers tyrosinase inhibitors deep into the skin's melanocytes to reduce melanin production, thereby reducing hyperpigmentation.

FACT: An Independent clinical study of 44 candidates using the Dr V Facial Pigmentation Kit showed 70% saw a significant reduction in hyperpigmentation after 12 weeks
